North Sydney Clean Energy Fair - Solar Citizens

North Sydney Clean Energy Fair

On a rainy Sunday morning, our electric ute made it the furthest north it had been (but absolutely not the furthest it will go, by far!) to North Sydney

Just a few days earlier when we were in Canberra, we took North Sydney's new Independent MP, Kylea Tink for a ride in our ute around Parliament House. Ms Tink articulately described the barriers to action on electric vehicles at a federal level, and so some of the solutions – namely Fuel Efficiency Standards.

You can watch a video of our ride with Kylea Tink MP here.

After the ride, Ms Tink mentioned that this coming weekend she was hosting a Community Energy Fair in her electorate... and wondered if we would consider coming along! While we did need rest after a long week of work in Canberra, I recharged myself (and the ute of course) on the Saturday, and was ready for action on the Sunday.

Ms Tink's office, in partnership with the Smart Energy Council did a fantastic job of bringing together 30 stalls, which lined the main auditorium. From clean energy retailers, to EV importers the Good Car Company, to e-bikes shops, you name it – they were all there at the fair. While my workmates Peizhi and Valentina worked the crowd from the inside, explaining our campaign for zero-interest loans on batteries, I was out of the venue mingling with punters interested in EVs.

And what a display of EVs it was! Alongside our mates at the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) and the Tesla's Owners Club Australia (TOCA), around 15 EVs were parked in the car park out the back.

Despite the rain, many people came to check out our first-of-a-kind ute, a BYD Atto 3, various Teslas, a MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona's from the NRMA.

At the end of the event, we made sure to catch Kylea Tink for a couple of minutes and present our New South Wales Policy Recommendations and get a photo. Thanks for a great day!
