What role can home batteries play in the transition away from fossil fuel power?

The goal of the Cheaper Home Batteries Program is to drive the uptake of 1 million home batteries by 2030.

Answer

If we get a million home batteries by 2030 supplying energy to the grid at peak evening time, battery storage will replace expensive gas, bringing down energy prices for everyone.  

This aligns with modelling by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) that we need 8GW of consumer batteries installed by 2030 to help stabilise the grid and keep energy prices as low as possible during the clean energy transition.
