A third of homes left out of the clean energy transition - unless we act now

We are at risk of a third of Australian homes being ignored at this critical stage of the clean energy transition - and we have to act now. Residential properties account for 24% of Australia’s energy use, and 10% of our carbon emissions, and rental properties make up a third of all housing stock.

We will all be missing out on the 14GW rooftop solar potential and 250 Megatonnes of carbon emissions reduction by ignoring solar for renters, with even greater savings available by making those properties more efficient as well. Renters themselves could be saving as much as $2.9 billion each year on their energy bills with solar, and by adding energy efficiency upgrades some could be saving up to $6,000 a year!

The Federal, State and Territory Energy Ministers - who sit on the Ministerial Council for Energy and Climate Change (MCECC) - have been promising minimum energy efficiency standards for rentals since 2019. You can use the below form to tell members of the Council to put minimum energy efficiency standards and solar for renters back on their agenda.

You can edit the text below to send your own, personalised email to the Federal, State and Territory Energy Ministers asking for minimum energy efficiency standards and solar for renters.
