Vote 1 Sun - Queensland Election

Queenslanders love their solar. More than 380,000 Queensland homes are powered by the sun - and thousands more are going solar every month. But the Newman Government has wiped out mandatory feed-in tariffs, brought in $500-a-day service charges discriminating against solar users and wound back a host of renewable energy initiatives.

You can help stop attacks on Queensland solar this election day. We've written to Premier Campbell Newman and the leaders of all the major parties to ask them where they stand on these five major issues facing solar.

Only way to stop the coal party…go off grid! It’s getting cheaper by the year. I was recently quoted $20K to upgrade my little 2kW grid tie to a 6kW offgrid with batteries. A year or so earlier it would have cost $35K. I see also the QCA are recommending increasing the daily service fee for residential power users to $1.07 for 2015/16. They’ll try every dirty trick in the book, but offgrid will stymie them….sorry don’t need your product any more.

Even with government subsidies and being on the 44 cent feed in, my 30kW array built in 2011 will break even in 2017.
I would like to see stability for solar that can only be changed in small increments up or down year to year and leadership to leadership. Giving solar businesses a stable future, and not having to operate on the edge of a proverbial cliff.
The future looked so bright in the beginning, but there is still hope to introduce legislation to stabilse the industry.

Moving to solar and other renewables makes economic as well as environmental sense. As the “Sunshine State”, Queensland should be leading the way to exploit our natural energy sources and to create jobs in the industries derived from them.
