The rapid growth and high penetration of rooftop solar PV in Australia is largely attributable to State-based ‘solar bonus schemes’ which created high feed-in tariffs for exported solar power from small-scale systems.

The end of 2016 will see the expiry of the 60c/20c NSW Gross FiT currently enjoyed by 146,000 households. NSW does not even set a minimum market rates for solar exports, allowing retailers to set low or even zero prices for solar exports.

Retailers don’t want to pay solar owners a higher amount because solar is the competition.

That means retailers and network companies are profiting from the investments that everyday Australians have put onto their roofs. What we want is a fair price that reflects what solar energy is worth. A fair price means more solar, and more solar means more renewable energy in Australia which is good for everyone!
