Fair Price for ACT Solar
13,000 solar owners in the ACT have invested $92 million dollars in solar saving $7 million in power bills and reducing CO2 emissions by 40,000 tonnes. These solar citizens, and future investors to come, need a fair, stable price for the solar they invest in, and the ACT Government must support the clean energy of the future.
Last year, the ACT Government committed to a 20 year guaranteed price for solar that is equivalent to the large scale auction price.
But, ActewAGL, the ACT’s primary energy retailer, has announced that it will be closing it's current one for one solar buy back scheme to new customers. This change highlights the lack of certainty that exists in our renewable energy sector. Without a guaranteed fair price for their electricity, solar owners in the ACT will continue to be subject to this kind of policy change and uncertainty.
Show the ACT government that you want a fair price for solar electricity.

Dear Chief Minister,
Nearly 13,000 solar owners have invested $92 million dollars in solar. This is a massive achievement—families are taking control over their power bills and reducing the our Co2 emissions at the same time. And their actions don’t just help these households—the move to solar is helping our entire community by creating jobs, bringing new opportunities to our homes, reducing transmission loses and much more.
But, as you know, ActewAGL has recently announced that it will be closing it's one for one solar buy back scheme to new customers, effective 30 June 2013. This change impacts all future solar owners in our community—making it more difficult for families and small businesses to take control over their power bills.
Given the ACT’s 90% renewable energy target and the drive towards making Canberra the “Solar Capital” of Australia, we seem to be heading in entirely the wrong direction.
Just last year, through the Labor-Greens Parliamentary Agreement, your Government committed to a 20 year guaranteed price for solar that is equivalent to the large scale auction price, the price that large companies and businesses receive. The Agreement shows your Government’s desire to make Canberra the “Solar Capital;” however, given ActewAGL’s recent changes, it’s more important than ever to get this guaranteed price under way.
It’s time that your Government delivered true certainty for the renewable energy sector and our community. We need a guaranteed fair price for solar.
Signed,
