Government must halt attempts to cut solar and renewables and support Australian families
Solar Citizens welcome Labor’s decision to walk away from the Renewable Energy Target (RET) negotiations following the Abbott Government’s repeated attempts to destroy the solar and renewables industry.
“Before the last election the Target had bipartisan support, with all parties promising to protect Australia’s renewable energy industry. The government has broken a key election promise by trying to destroy a growing, innovative industry.” said Solar Citizens National Director Claire O’Rourke.
“The target will bring down power prices for all Australians and create at least another 15,000 jobs by 2020.
“Australians want to see more investment in renewable energy, not less. Cutting the RET will cause irrevocable harm to an industry that’s struggling because of the uncertainty the government has created.”
“The government’s own Warburton Review clearly showed having rooftop solar and renewable energy in the national power mix would reduce electricity prices for all Australian families in the long-term,” Ms O’Rourke said.
“If the Target is reduced or abolished, millions of Australians will be prevented from going solar and saving money on their electricity bills.”
“The Federal Government should be assisting more households to go solar to help them with the cost of living.”
“The Abbott Government must stop trying to take Australia’s renewable energy industry backwards.”
Claire O’Rourke is available for interview.
