Bipartisan support needed to lock in cost of living savings and clean energy investment from 75% emissions reduction target

Solar Citizens urges Queensland LNP Leader David Crisafulli to extend bi-partisan support for the two renewable energy bills due before Queensland Parliament today and make the upcoming State Election a race to the top on delivering clean, renewable energy and cost-of-living relief for households.

The Clean Economy Jobs Bill 2024 and Energy (Renewable Transformation and Jobs) Bill 2023 are expected/will be moved as one in the Queensland Parliament today.

Queensland leads the world in the uptake of rooftop solar and the state’s Shadow Environment Minister Sam O’Connor last month publicly guaranteed nuclear will not be part of the Queensland LNP’s energy transformation plan.

Solar Citizens Acting CEO Joel Pringle said reduced pollution emissions, lower energy bills, and reduced cost of living from solar energy go hand-in-hand - delivering a win for households, small business and the economy.

“Queensland’s natural advantage of abundant sun resources means it’s well-placed to become a clean energy powerhouse and deliver cheap, clean solar energy. Now we need bipartisan support for the Clean Economy Jobs Bill to lock in the power bill savings, environmental benefits, local jobs and economic boost available from cleaner energy,” he said

“We don’t want Queenslanders put off going solar or upgrading with a new battery, or industry holding back on investment in larger-scale clean energy because of uncertainty over the Opposition position on these bills facilitating the energy transition.

“What we need is every Queenslander, regardless of their postcode or personal circumstances, having the support they need to access to the benefits of cheap solar energy and storage and for the state to power ahead,” Mr Pringle said.
