96% support keeping Renewable Energy Target strong new survey finds

96% of Queenslanders want the Renewable Energy Target increased or kept steady according to a Solar Citizens poll presented to PUP Senator Glenn Lazarus by his constituents today.

The survey of 496 people in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast also showed that 85% of Senator Lazarus’ constituents and 91% of Clive Palmer’s constituents support the PUP pledge to keep the Target strong.

Local constituents met PUP Senate Leader Glenn Lazarus at his electorate office today to present the poll result and express their support for his party’s decision to block any moves by the Federal Government to slash the Target.

“The Abbott Government should follow the lead of the Palmer United Party and support Australian families by keeping the Renewable Energy Target strong,” says Solar Citizens Campaigns Director Claire O’Rourke.

“Australians love solar. It helps them take control of their power bills.

“Today local constituents conveyed their concerns to Mr Lazarus and expressed their support for the PUP’s push to keep the Target strong.

“They fear the Abbott Government’s attacks on solar and the Target make it harder for people to go solar in the future.

“More than one million Australian homes have already gone solar and more families would like to – any change to the Target would make that impossible.

“Solar is the only way Australians can lower their power bills.

“By attacking the Target, the Government is prioritising big power company profits over the needs of average Australians.

“Mr Lazarus and the PUP understand how important solar is to Australians. They are prepared to stand up for Australians who want to take control of their power bills.

“Tony Abbott’s Government need to keep their election promise and do what’s best for Australian families by keeping the Target strong.”
