Social housing rooftops* across Australia could be contributing 2GW of renewable energy capacity if they had solar according to the newly released Solar Potential report commissioned by Solar Citizens and produced by our friends at the Australian Photovoltaic Institute.
*This includes both public and community housing properties.
The problem is that most of this renewable energy capacity is unrealised. Only a small percentage of social housing properties have solar - even though installing panels on all eligible rooftops would deliver bill savings up to $1,358 for some of the most vulnerable households who are in desperate need of energy bill relief.
The good news is that you can help get more solar on social housing in Australia by sending an email to Commonwealth, State and Territory Housing Ministers.
We've written an email template to help make this action quick and simple for you to do - it will only take a few minutes of your time.
The form below includes a draft email, but you can edit and personalise the message as much as you like. If you can, we encourage you to send your message in your own words, making sure to tell the Ministers for Housing why solar for social housing is so important to you and your community!
