About the South Australian teams
Steve and Deidre have been coordinating the Adelaide Solar Citizens group for 2 years now and have helped build up a network of committed supporters.
Recently, Steve and Deidre organised an Adelaide team road trip to the Tunarama festival at Port Lincoln. They hosted a Solar Citizens stall throughout the festival, spoke with locals about solar, signed up 600 new supporters and met many keen locals wanting to do more.
The support for solar was so strong that two of these new supporters, Ross and Nell, decided to start their own Port Lincoln/Eyre Peninsula group - Solar Citizen's first regional team! The people in the regions obviously understand the importance of solar and positive renewable energy policies unlike our government representatives.
Steve and Deidre and the SA teams want to power up at Solar Supercharge to continue to build the Solar Citizens supporter base and take on the challenges that await us in this election year.
The South Australian teams are looking forward to taking on the challenge of moving Australia to a bright renewable future.
Why we want to go to Solar Supercharge
We want to help build on the success of Solar Citizens to date. We need progressive policies on renewables and we need them now! Going to Solar Supercharge will give us the opportunity to learn new skills and meet people from across the country with great ideas. We'll take these skills and ideas back into the regional communities of the Electorate of Grey and be able to campaign for solar better than ever before.
Per capita more people have solar in the regions than in the cities and we need to connect with them so that their voices can be heard. We're willing to put in the effort, we just need a bit of help to get the skills, ideas and connections to make a real difference in this important election year.
We're also working hard to fundraise ourselves! We are delighted that Bunnings Warehouse has allocated us 3 days at which we can raise funds via sausage sizzles at their premises. Come by to grab a snag and say hi!
The dates allocated are:
Bunnings Kent Town: Sunday, 7 February
Bunnings Woodville: Sunday, 21 February
Bunnings Woodville: Wednesday, 9 March.
Solar Supercharge is a three-day national action summit for clean energy, held on 13-15 February in Brisbane - Read more at www.solarcitizens.org.au/solar_supercharge. Any donation you make will go towards helping cover our costs of getting to Solar Supercharge, with any leftover going towards scholarships for other people to attend.
