• Even though renewable energy has increased to 13.5% of Queensland’s overall generation, in May 2019, Green Energy Markets reviewed Queensland’s progress towards their target and projected that the state would only reach approximately 30% RE by 2030.
• There is currently no plan for how this target will be achieved.
• Following the end of the national Renewable Energy Target, investment in new large-scale renewable energy projects completely collapsed in 2019. 
  

Delivering 1000MW of renewable energy generation through CleanCo by 2025.

• CleanCo began operation in October 2019 and $250 million has been allocated so it can deliver 1000MW of new renewable energy generation, however there is currently no plan for how this will proceed. 
  
• The Government also promised a further $100 million to support the upgrade of the Burdekin Falls dam to pumped hydro, but this money has been reallocated to CleanCo pending further consideration of the project.
• A further $50 million in capital funding was promised towards the development of a solar thermal plant with storage. This $50 million has also been reallocated to CleanCo. 

• The delivery of the 400MW reverse auction is now running two years overdue – originally meant to commence in the second half of 2017. A shortlist of project applications was announced in July 2017. There are over 2GW of projects on the shortlist, which has now been handed over to CleanCo for delivery.
• An announcement of the successful projects is expected in early 2020. 

• Queensland fell short of 1 million solar rooftops by 2020, with currently only just over 650,000. However, Queensland is still leading the country in terms of the number of rooftop solar installations. 
• As of December 2019, Queensland had a total installed small-scale solar capacity of 2.8GW, falling short of the 3GW target.
• The Government did, however, follow through on their commitment to provide no-interest loans and rebates for households to install solar and storage. 

• Phase one of the Advancing Clean Energy Schools (ACES) Program has begun, with 212 schools set to get solar installed. However, the pace will need to pick up if all of the shortlisted schools are to have solar installed by the end of the financial year. 
• If all proceeds as planned, phases 2 and 3 will be delivered in 2020–21 and 2021–22 respectively.

• Not yet completed. Work is underway extending an existing solar farm at Doomadgee, Mapoon is next cab off the rank, and government officials have started talks with Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire and the Northern Peninsula Area Regional councils.

• The Queensland Government committed $150 million for transmission infrastructure to support a clean energy hub in North Queensland, but not all of this has been allocated.
