Demand a fair go for solar in Tasmania

Tasmania is in the grip of an energy crisis.* Record low dam levels have incapacitated hydro power, our state has lost the Basslink connection to the mainland grid and deadlines to fix it have been missed repeatedly. The answer is all around us - renewable energy from the sun - but instead the Tasmanian Government is reaching for the quick and dirty fix.

The government is turning to expensive diesel generators to help solve the crisis, but these look set to increase already rising electricity prices. Solar is an accessible, clean, cheap form of energy and seems like a logical part of the solution. Solar makes sense for Tassie - but we need the government to get on board and support renewables in our state with a fair price for solar fed back into the grid.

UPDATE - NEW RESEARCH SHOWS SOLAR IS WORTH 3 TIMES WHAT IT IS CURRENTLY PAID.

Dear Premier Hodgman and Energy Minister Groom,

Tasmania is in the grip of an energy crisis. Solar could be a key part of the solution, but the government needs to provide strong renewable policy and a fair price of solar fed back into the grid.

UPDATE: New research shows exported solar electricity is worth 3 times the current amount. We call on the Government to ensure solar is paid a fair price of 17-22c kWhr that reflects the benefits of clean, solar powered energy.

We want clean, cheap power from the sun, not expensive diesel and gas. We're calling on you to support Tasmania's sun-powered future and mandate a fair feed-in tariff for solar.
